Åhus Gästis
It certainly feels unique, that food and shelter has been provided here since early in the 17th century. Now we are recreating the special atmosphere the inn invites to.
"Lasse at Gästis" - innkeeper and chef, bids you a hearty welcome!

In the beginning the old inn only consisted of the white two-storey building. It was here in the eastern part that sailors and the people from the harbour hung out.
The other half of the ground floor was the innkeepers private region. It was from here he sold distilled spirits before the time of the monopoly.
On the first floor the “fine dining room” was situated. It is not often that you find an inn and a sailor’s pub under the same roof.

A Danish man named Sølling ran the inn. He was a former captain in the Danish army before becoming innkeeper in Åhus. During his time harbour workers and seamen from brigs and full-rigged ships to taste the innkeepers strong drinks in the lower serving area.
The finer guest, arriving by horse and carriage, preferred the first floor, where the finest section was situated. The upper middle-class had their rendezvous in this dining room on the top floor of the white house.

In later years Åhus’ oldest inn has had its premises extended considerably. The red wing, which today houses the inns large dining room, was formerly storage room for tobacco. It was in here merchant Engström weighed out his tobacco before 1914 when the tobacco monopoly was established.
