Åhus is situated by the Baltic Sea on the east coast of South Sweden. 850 years ago Åhus was an Episcopal residence and a fortified town with lively trade and shipping. Today Åhus is an enchanting idyll with half-timbered houses, narrow, winding streets and one of Sweden’s most beautiful old markets dating back to the Middle Ages. A stroll through the cobble-stoned alleys with well-preserved housing from the 18th century is a comfortable history lesson. A walk by the harbour, where both large freight ships and beautiful yachts are moored, is a delight. In the summer time different activities are arranged alongside the quay, and the harbour area is for a large part the centre of Åhus. Åhus is well known in the whole world for its production of Absolut Vodka and in Sweden for its miles and miles of sandy beaches, that go as far as the coast line of the Baltic Sea. During the summer the population is threefold! For the golf craving it might be fun to know that Sweden’s fifth oldest golf course with 36 exciting holes is situated in Åhus.
